Optimizing websites help ranking in search engines

According to Wikipedia, “Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results…. SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.”

Search engine optimization is a very general term that encompasses a number of theories and practices. These can include link building, content building and optimization of HTML code. One of the interesting parts of SEO is that it is always changing and evolving. As search engines refine the way they search, index and rank websites, the practice of optimizing a website continues to be a work in progress.
